You expect me to deny it, that I dazzle by design
To blush and cast aside my radiant face
But I alone built beauty, and this monument is mine
Now blossoming begins, I claim this space
Thorns, petals, stalks, and pollen, and my body’s burnished bright
I tended to my budding carefully
Now night is thrown to daytime; though it fills you with delight
My sole intent was ever to please me.
I sallied forth at rise of dawn, the daybreak at my back
And there met you, you said “que vous êtes belle!”
I said, I’m proud and fickle, all humility I lack
Mais toi et moi, nous serons éternels!
Capricious heart, bravado induced you to run away
I’m rooted while you sail past winking stars
But love we broached, remember, on that final disp’rate day
And I’ll always recall what once was ours
Perhaps it’s just mere vanity, all verses meant for me
These winding words more welcome than pure prose
But I drink strength like sugar and I’m rising rapidly
For ne’er doubt the resilience of a rose…
