Dear Reader,
I waited for you
at the bus stop
next to the run down
coffee shop where we first
met eyes. My arms were
folded, my one foot on the wall
behind me, the other planted
on the ground. The sun rose
high in the sky while I waited. But,
you insisted you would
be back by morning,
and when noon struck I
stayed patient like a Dog
waiting by the door.
It must have been half
past three when you slithered
out with the farmer's daughter
garnered in that silk satin
tartan gown,
you said I could wear
some day. And, when our
eyes met again,
you pretended you didn't know me,
pretended I didn't exist,
pretended you didn't ask me to be
there. So, I walked away with my tail
still wagging in the air,
my ears still perked up,
swallowing a fit of barks
until I reached my front door.
Sincerely,
A Lone Wolf
