Ok, so here is my hot take on homework. Its dumb. I don’t want to hear the argument,” Oh but it’s good practice.” Let's be honest, most students look up the answers or don't try anyway. If you’re taking any sort of advanced class, ok fine, that’s fair that there would be more work, it’s what you signed up for. But students wake up early in the morning (earlier than teenagers should mind you, we need more sleep) and stay in school for hours working and going from class to class. We should be enjoying our lives and not spending the little time we have left in jenkintown doing more work. Furthermore, many students already have things taking up their lives. Everyone has a different home life, some students may have to go home and watch their younger siblings, or cook for their family. I even know of multiple students having 2 or more jobs after school to help support their family! To add the stress of 4 more hours of school work just isn’t fair. Not to mention, students need time to themselves to just relax or spend time with friends. To add the pressure of doing more work can really put a strain on a student's mental health. Especially if they’re already struggling with mental illness, which lets be honest, many are. I also want to just point out that if every teacher “just” gives 1 hour of homework, you’re not doing us any favors, because it adds up! If every teacher gives us 30 to an hour of homework it quickly becomes about 5 hours of work! Anyways, if you’re a teacher reading this, just please respect your students time and their personal lives, and don’t overwork us. Ciao
