Stuck on the cold hard ground,
Watching the rest of his flock take flight.
His body's’ tethered to the ground by earthly creations-
Yet his spirit longs for freedom, rushing wind beneath his wings!
“Oh Why!?” wails the sparrow, desperate and crushed.
Gazing up at the sky from the dismal ground.
But his friends, family, companions- his life-
Soar away, heading south for the winter.
They dive and glide, coast and twirl…
Like a ballerina, a master in her element!
Sparing not a second thought to their castaway brother…
“Oh Why!?” cries the sparrow, hopeless and forsaken.
Still crumpled on the damp, foreboding earth.
His small heads hangs,
Frail Shoulders droop,
Bright Eyes dim..
All hope for freedom-
Gone!
Like his forgotten heartbeat...
