Fear is a balm
rising from the ashes of instinct, an eternal flame, early
humans clustered close,
So lost, so alone, in a world full of the primal flash of tooth and blood-
No room for safety, less for love.
fear kept us safe:
fear reached out, beyond its own shriveled body, a lonely, quivering,
Solitary
existence.
and gave us a chance to survive.
Fear let us live,
Fear made us who we are.
but when i writhe in the deep cradle of midnight - when it comes upon me-
spider-like,
Globular smiles and quintessential, glistening fangs,
Whispering eyes,
watching...
Waiting…
i know,
that this is not benevolence!
fear is a tyrant!
yet i am powerless to prevent it, it-
coddles me, cocoons me,
sinks deep, through dark waters, and
floods, frigid-
Into…
i am a prisoner,
breathing and being in a land of freedom, yet
(terrified...)
Chained…
(petrified...)
by
My?
Own!
(I FEAR!)
Mind…
