In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years

The best and the most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched they must be felt with the heart.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

“I’m not exactly sure why the power or the internet went out. Right before the internet went down I saw, on the news, that all over the world the power was going out. Most people were using backup energy and I was using my phone which wasn’t completely dead. The reporters only had about two minutes left, but the internet went down. At first, I didn’t think much of it, the power would come on in the morning as well as the internet. But, in the morning there wasn’t internet or power or anything. It was surprising that it was still out. I didn’t have time to think about that, though, because my dog, Luna, was barking loudly, so I went downstairs to check it out. But when I went downstairs, I didn’t get the usual smell of pumpkin spice coffee. There was no hint of my dad’s burning toast or anything normal. My parents were nowhere in sight.” she said looking down.
“I’m sorry about that. So… the boat?” I replied.
“Yeah,” she said, wiping the tears away. “Anyway, I packed a bag to go on a trip. Y’know, everything I’d need: food, a backup charger, my phone and some dog food for Luna. I wasn’t for sure how long I would be gone from home. I put Luna on her leash and we were off. I didn’t realize what happened before I stepped outside. There was rubble from other houses and bodies laying on the pavement.” She choked a little, then continued, “I walked down the street in disbelief. Everyone had… passed on. At least, everybody except for me. Then I saw you. You were laying on the ground and sat up. You didn’t know what happened, neither did I. That’s when you came in: we went to your house, grabbed a bag. I told you to get food and anything else you needed. I told you that we were going to get out of there. We went back to my house and grabbed the keys to my dad’s truck. I drove down the street, not knowing where to go or even how to drive a car, but we got along.”
“So how did we end up on a boat?” I asked. She pause for a moment.
“That’s a little more complicated. We’ll talk about that later.” she decided, standing up.
“Oh, and I didn’t catch your name. I’m Delma.”
